This song took a lot of flack in it's time. It has been accused of bring down a ripping show, and I think most found it a little too soft. Sometimes it could be stretched out for nearly 10 minutes, and other times they put the kibosh on it after 2 minutes.

I kind of liked the song though, and it would give Brent some good air time. Yesterday a version caught me as being a little better, maybe having a little more soul. It could have been the beer, or the relentless rain, but give it a try. And afterwards there is a nice Brent-infused Other One to bring you back.

not to be negative but you just hit on probably my all time LEAST favorite Dead tune.Of course the caveat is that I never saw them do a Vince tune and don't listen to any post Hornsby Dead. For all the flak that Weir has taken, how can anyone possibly say that Money Money is worse?

Not only is this song sappy but

a) out of space? when you're waiting for something good?

b) I hate to be self righteous but as a dedicated Dad it's a little hard for me to stomach a song about how he's going to be there to protect his kids when I'm quite certain he wasn't there at all.

Have to agree that out of space is a buzzkill for IWTYH.

I brought this up as a thread to see if time has healed the wounds with that song. That maybe the 'ol 20/20 hindsight thing kicked in for some folks.

Quite honestly, I don't like most of the songs the band wrote with Vince. I don't listen to much of anything past 1991. But that's just me.

Hope I didn't rain on your post

I'm with you 100% there. Of course I go even further. I'm in the minority here, while I think the band played great in some of the Brent years, I can't think of one Brent tune I like. Sorry. I mean I like some of the vibe in Just A Little Light, but that's musically speaking. I just found his tunes to be real shallow and poppy compared to the rest of the bands songs.

Hey Johnny - I'm happy to join your minority. I can't think of a single Mydland song that I like - every one of them has me reaching for the skip button. They're just utterly banal. Can you imagine a Brent Mydland solo album full of this stuff? Doesn't bear thinking about...

LOL Rob! I should have known I could count on you to share this perspective with me. Oh, I can imagine such an album, in the cut out bin next to an equally sappy post rehab David Crosby album.

I actually really liked this tune when they first pulled it out. The problem for me was that I quickly got sick of it as it was played way too often for my likes. Always thought it would have been great if it was kept in the irregular rotation.

Thanks for this. I am one who was not a big fan of the tune but I'm open to check for great versions.
